Farmers in communes and districts of Can Tho City such as Ho Dac Kien, An Ninh, Tran De, Lieu Tu, Thanh Thoi An, Thanh Tri, and My Xuyen are actively participating in rice production linkages with TD Soc Trang Organic Rice Agriculture Joint Stock Company (brand: Gao Ong Du). To date, the total linked rice-growing area has reached 1,000 hectares, playing a significant role in the One Million Hectares High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Project being rolled out throughout the Mekong Delta region.

Gao Ong Du not only supplies rice varieties, fertilizers, and plant protection products, but also commits to guaranteeing output purchasing, enabling farmers to produce with confidence without concerns about market access. In addition, the company has partnered with banks to provide accessible financial support under favorable conditions for farmers participating in the linkage chain.

A key highlight of the model is the transition from traditional farming practices to advanced, safe, and environmentally friendly cultivation processes aligned with the objectives of the national project. Although initial efforts to persuade farmers to change long-established cultivation methods faced challenges, support from local agricultural authorities—along with positive results from pilot models showing stable yields and reduced pest pressure—has gradually built farmers’ trust and encouraged wider participation.

In particular, for organic ST25 rice production, Gao Ong Du has cooperated with multiple cooperatives to apply organic farming practices, achieving promising results. Many farmers report that participating in the linkage model not only reduces input costs but also allows them to sell rice at prices higher than the market average, significantly increasing profits compared to conventional production.

The expansion of production linkages under the One Million Hectares High-Quality Rice Project not only helps improve farmers’ incomes, but also advances the goals of sustainable agricultural development, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and enhancing the quality and reputation of Vietnamese rice in the market.
